From Idea to Reality: The Early Alert System

From the initial idea Dr Kyle Van Duser had of the Early Alert System to then creating Pacific Analytics with the Early Alert System being a key part of the company. The Early Alert System has now transformed the lives of businesses and individuals across the US. But, where did it all began? We caught up with Kyle to find out more about the idea to reality process.

When did you first get the idea to create The Early Alert System?

I got the idea a few years ago based on a research project that I just finished.

For the project, I was researching parents of children suffering from mental health related challenges. I wanted to better understand what was the process they went through from start to finish.

As I followed the families from intake through discharge and one month post, it became clear that treatment provided an awesome environment for healing. Parents became self aware how they were enabling negative behavior and or adding trauma. While treatment went, once discharged, life stresses would trigger mental health relapse. The families would find themselves right back where they started.

This wasn’t the case for all families, but there was enough cases for theme of “aftercare support” to emerge. I had adopted the idea of an Early Alert System from Higher Education, where colleges use an alert system to notify advisors when students fail tests and stop showing up to class.

Academic advisors and tutors get notified and conduct outreach. The Early Alert has had great success in Higher Education and it seemed like a practical solution for mental health. Only instead of academic advisors, it is licensed therapists and the indicator of at risk is standardized instruments.

Leaving such a structured environment can be difficult for those in residential care. Our Early Alert System serves a as a great tool to stay connected with your clients and give them the support they need beyond their in house programme.
